The 2021 Lumphanan Detox 10K was cancelled in September 2020 due to the global pandemic. We know that these trying times are not going to stop runners from running. If you go for a safe and socially distanced run, where required, on the 2nd Jan 2021, and you would like your run unofficially recorded, please send an email with a picture attached (along with name(s), rough location, approximate distance, and time) to

eventlump@yahoo.com

It does not have to be a 10K run, and it does not have to have started at 11:30am GMT, when the Detox traditionally starts.

Any pictures will be added to a new album for this virtual event.

The Lumphanan Detox had been held every year from 2004 to 2020. It was started to raise funds to replace an old tennis court with a new facility that could be used in all weathers and for different purposes.

Since it was first held in 2004, it has grown to be a popular event for local runners, with the 2020 Detox open to 500 participants. It is the first 10K event held in Scotland when a new year dawns. It was named the Detox as an homage to the Scottish celebration of the New Year.

Scotland is one of the few countries in the world that has a second day's holiday at the start of a new year. We leave you to draw your own conclusions as to why a second day of holiday is required.

The majority of participants run in shorts and a top. Some opt for a kilt instead of shorts. Over the years, some people have run in fancy dress. One of the village residents is a fire fighter. Several races have seen him and his colleagues run in their full gear, including air tanks. Please see our galleries page for videos and stills of previous events.

Recent participants will have seen the compilation video that plays in the hall during registration. If there had been a race in 2021, its compilation video may have looked like this.

As well as a fire fighter and many health workers, the village has a number of professional people who help with the running of the race by sponsoring the event. The sponsors page shows who has helped us in recent years.
